All you need is:
Metallic gold paint ( or color of your choice) I used an acrylic paint from Ac Moore.
First I traced another rug I had to get the shape I wanted. I used a marker and traced the back of it. If you do not have another rug to trace that’s ok- just free hand one. It’s not to hard!
Next cut out your shape and iron your cloth. This step is very important because once you paint it you can not iron it.
Place your rug over a drop cloth and begin painting. I used a large paint brush and a white flat paint. You will go through a lot of paint because the cloth absorbs it fast!
After that dries use a pencil to free hand your stripes. I pulled up some images on the Internet as a guide.
Paint your stripes the color of your choice and let it dry.
When we moved into our home the first thing I swore I was going to do was paint these shelves white. So here I am 16 months later finally getting around to it!
I used annie sloan pure white chalk paint.
I really love this paint because you do not have to sand or prime and it spreads well. I sealed it with Annie Sloan clear wax.
I used silver rub and buff on the knobs.
I loved how shiny and pretty the rub and buff made my hardware. But I have to admit that it was not fun to use. It’s super messy and gets on everything! It says “drys in minutes” but here I am one week later and I have to use a cloth to open my cabinets because some silver is rubbing off. I’m hoping by a couple days that will be over with!
I’m so proud of myself for painting this unit all by myself! I was able to do a little each day while my twins slept. It took me three days- however if your kid free you can probably bang it out in two days since Annie Sloan drys in ten minutes!!
All you need is antique books and twine.
If you don’t have old books but want them to look aged I suggest you throw them in some dirt in your yard and maybe lightly wet a few pages for water marks.
First rip off the hard cover around the book including the spine and back. Wrap your twine around the books twice and create a small bow. I wouldn’t recommend using any other string because the twine looks really pretty around the aged pages. You can also do this with sheets of music.
I placed my books in a wood dough bowl on top of my dining room table. I just love the antique feel on the table top. This is by far my favorite DIY- it requires only TWO items and is very unique. A true conversation peice. Your guest will love them!
When I found out you can use a regular picture frame and turn it into a chalkboard I new I had to give it a try. I had some old frames that I was not using and I spray painted them white. Here is a quick tutorial on how to get this look.
You will need:
Chalkboard spray paint
Picture frame with glass
Glass cleaner and paper towel
First remove the glass from the frame and clean with glass cleaner to remove dust.
Next follow the instructions on spray paint (shake can for 1 minute and spray glass.)
Then wait about 20 minutes and spray second coat-wait another 20 minutes and apply the 3rd coat. Applying a third coat is probably the most important step because you want your chalk to be visible.
Let the paint dry 24 hours before using. When it is fully dry rub chalk on the entire surface and erase. (This step is so your chalk adheres to the board.)
I made these frames so I can use them for Halloween. I know it is not for a few months but I’m always starting things early. How easy was this DIY? You should definitely give it a try!
Again another basic recipe!
Chop up potatoes, carrots & celery. Throw in baking dish then add olive oil, rosemary, & sea salt.
Bake at 425 degrees for 1 hour & 15 minutes.
This is healthy and delicious- a favorite of my husbands.
I finally got around to fixing this room ( well I still need an area rug). The hardest part about decorating this room was finding the right window treatment. The drapes I bought were my 4th pair. It’s very hard matching up things when you can’t take your room into the store. I wanted a more formal feel in this room. Usually you want a floor length drape for that look but since I have a dog that pees on everything and a vent at the bottom of the window I decided to go with the shorter length. (Damn dog)! The silky soft material of the “Epic” drapes from bed bath and beyond we’re formal enough at any length. Adding two scarves to the tops created drama and was exactly what I wanted!!
Below I used Annie Sloan chalk pain in Pure White on the shelves.
The throw pillows are from bed bath & beyond and they are velvety smoothe!!!

It has been almost 1 year of my doodling chalkboards obsession. I’m always drooling over other people’s art wondering to myself ” what is wrong with me?” That is until now! While at AC Moore I found stencils and thought hmmmm wonder if these would work on my chalkboard? I picked up a few letters and put my tracing skills to the test. ( Really the only skills required).
I stenciled out a monogram using the letters C W M – it is always best to stencil your middle letter first so your words are even. I free handed my leaves which is as fancy as my art work gets. Last I made a sign for my kitchen ….
When you are done with your stenciling a quick tip is to wet a q- tip and go around the edges smoothing the letters out. These alphabet stencils truly make signs look clean and neat. Now I need to head back to the store and buy a variety. Now you give it a try!
I don’t know about you… But every time I’m browsing the Internet or should I say Etsy I always see a variety of tissue pom poms. They are so beautiful and to think there only made out of TISSUE PAPER blows my mind. One day I youtubed how to make these crisp colorful flowers and discovered it was quite simple. If you want these to be even easier you can buy the pattern from Koyal wholesale online. This will save you some time- and believe me your going to want to!
Just follow your three step instructions on the back. Basically all you do is tie the middle with ribbon ( fish hook works better). Then you start pulling one layer at a time towards the center. You will find each one you make gets better and better. My first pom pom resembled a melted ice-cream scoop. By the time I was on my 3rd I was a pro! These can be time consuming and if you have crying babies like myself give yourself 1 year to assemble one! But for real this project is quite relaxing and you can do it while watching tv.
I chose to hang mine above my twins cribs but they would look great at birthday parties, weddings, or for the holidays.
I like this pasta salad because its very basic and delicious!
You will need:
1 red pepper
1 green pepper
1/2 red onion

1/2 cup Italian dressing
1 box of tri-color pasta
1/4 cup of parmesan cheese
Chop up your peppers, cheese , pepperoni, & onion and add to a large bowl.
Next add olives cooked pasta & dressing.
Last sprinkle with Parmesan cheese and refrigerate.
This pasta salad taste even better as left overs!
I’m a big fan of thelilypadcottage.com she’s a mom a wife and a blogger of “all things creative”. She has a great sense of style so when I stumbled upon her reading nook area she created I new I had to recreate it! After all I already had the pillows from etsy and have been searching for a paddle so why not? I’m not one to copy cat ideas but after the pottery barn blogged about her cozy space she created I knew I had to have this look in my house.
At the very bottom of my stair case (right before our basement) we have a small area that needs some decor. My husband was thinking maybe a table or chair but I opted for an entry bench with baskets.
Cymax.com – $270
I loved the metal sign hanging and I found it at Bella Home Fashions.
Bella Home Fashions- $28.90
I found a wooden paddle from seaweeddesigns on etsy. It was $29.00 plus shipping.

The last item I purchased was a tall black lantern from pier 1 imports. It was on sale for $24.99. I can never pass up a lantern there so beautiful when lit. I’m going to throw this on the side of the bench.
So there you have it- all the pieces you need for a cozy little nook! As soon as the painters spruce up the walls and my items all come in the mail I can redecorate!
Stay tuned for my recreation! I can’t wait!
